Understanding the Updated Requirements for Form I-693 in 2025

Introduction

Effective December 2, 2024, USCIS updated the submission requirements for Form I-693, the Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record. This change aims to streamline green card application processes by requiring the medical exam to accompany Form I-485.

What Happened
USCIS revised its policy to mandate that green card applicants submit a completed Form I-693 alongside their Form I-485. Previously, applicants could provide the form later, often leading to delays or mismanagement. Additionally, medical exams signed by civil surgeons on or after November 1, 2023, no longer expire, simplifying submission requirements for long-pending cases.

What This Means for Applicants
Applicants must schedule medical examinations with certified civil surgeons and submit Form I-693 in a sealed envelope with their Form I-485. The sealed status ensures document integrity; unsealed forms will be rejected. Applicants are encouraged to gather necessary documents, such as vaccination records and government-issued IDs, before their medical appointment.

With the updated requirements for Form I-693, compliance is essential to avoid rejections or delays. If you are unsure how this change affects your case, consult a licensed immigration attorney to guide you through the process..
